8 weeks went by very quickly. This week we gave short oral presentations to half of our classmates. Last week I spoke in front of 2000 or so at Patrick Henry, no nerves, no problem. In front of 10 or so of my peers, my mouth was dry and I was a bit tentative. I was cruising along, sans notes, when a classmate shot up a finger to let me know I had only a minute left. I immediately lost my place and became flustered. At that point I wish I had clearly planned out notes in my hand. It reminds me that leaders need to be able to deal with surprises. Challenges need to be faced and unexpected adversity overcome without time for preparation. My nerves were a small problem, but a clear opportunity for growth.
No problem with big crowds, it’s small ones that are unnerving….
